It's hard enough to do the right thing, so I think you should make it as easy as possible for you and your patients by getting a clear idea of what the right thing is.<br /><br />Are there other priests in the diocese who can help you, or do you need to write to Fr. Tad and Janet Smith? Maybe do both.<br /><br />That said, I don't think you sinned- it doesn't sound like a "failure in genuine love for God" to me.
